A nutritious, protein-packed bread alternative that’s perfect for open sandwiches and naturally gluten-free.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup split black gram (urad dal)
  • 1 cup split green gram (mung dal)
  • Unrefined salt

Instructions

  1. Preparation:

    • Wash both dals
    • Soak separately in water for 4-5 hours
  2. Grinding:

    • Rinse and drain soaked dals
    • Grind both dals separately until smooth
    • Mix both batters together
    • Add salt
  3. Fermentation:

    • Keep batter in warm place
    • Let ferment for 7-8 hours
  4. Steaming:

    • Transfer to dhokla steaming plate
    • Spread evenly (1 cm - 1¼ cm thick)
    • Steam for 5-7 minutes
    • Test with toothpick (should come out clean)
  5. Serving:

    • Allow to cool slightly
    • Cut into sandwich-sized slices
    • Use as bread alternative
    • Top with spreads and vegetables

  • Stack with sliced vegetables
